The New Language of Self-Care: Portuguese Brands Worth Discovering

From Azorean botanicals to Lisbon perfumery and innovative skincare, three Portuguese brands are bringing a fresh perspective to beauty, fragrance and the rituals of self-care.

Self-care is increasingly becoming an expression of how we choose to live. Beyond products and routines, it is about the connection between nature, science, memory and the small rituals that shape everyday life. Across Portugal, a new generation of independent brands is exploring this relationship with a thoughtful approach to ingredients, craftsmanship and innovation.

Born from the extraordinary landscape of the Azores, IGNAE brings together the natural richness of the Atlantic archipelago and contemporary scientific research. Founded by Miguel Pombo, the brand draws inspiration from the islands’ volcanic origins and distinctive botanical environment, exploring the potential of plant-derived ingredients through biotechnology. At the heart of its formulations is EPC Factor®, a technology developed to enhance the properties of botanical compounds. Rather than relying on excessive extraction, IGNAE seeks to understand and work with natural processes, creating a skincare philosophy where innovation and respect for nature exist side by side. In Lisbon, the brand’s approach can be experienced at the Ritz Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon, on Rua Rodrigo da Fonseca, where its products are incorporated into signature treatments. The hotel has also offered IGNAE products for purchase, although current retail availability should be confirmed directly with the spa.

In Lisbon, Next Memory explores a more emotional dimension of self-care: the relationship between fragrance and memory. Set within a restored 19th-century pharmaceutical laboratory, the niche perfumery atelier brings the character of a traditional laboratory into a contemporary world of scent creation. Its fragrances draw on cultural references, landscapes and personal experiences, including an unexpected olfactory interpretation of the pastel de nata. More than a collection of perfumes, Next Memory proposes a way of revisiting places and moments through the senses, reminding us how a familiar scent can bring an almost forgotten memory back to life. Its boutique at Rua de São José, 187, invites visitors to explore the collections in person, discover the creative process and experience the brand’s approach to personalised fragrance.

Taking a different approach to the natural world, Lusipure looks to Portugal’s own landscape for inspiration. Founded by Ângelo Luís and Audrey Coppede, the brand combines locally sourced ingredients with contemporary cosmetic research, from olive leaves grown in Trás-os-Montes to algae found along the coast of Aveiro. Its minimalist identity reflects a philosophy centred on considered formulations, ingredient quality and scientific exploration. By looking more closely at familiar natural resources, Lusipure offers a fresh perspective on skincare, where innovation begins with an appreciation of what already surrounds us. Available through its online boutique, the brand is also developing a carefully selected network of physical partners, including pharmacies in Lisbon, bringing its approach to skincare closer to everyday routines. Specific retail locations have yet to be publicly confirmed.
